Papa Grows Funk - Highline Ballroom, NYC 4/11/08
First I want to throw a shout out to my friends who are putting on the Equifunk Festival over the weekend of June 6th. Papa Grows Funk, Jack O'Hara Band and Leroy Justice will be performing in scenic Equinunk, Pennsylvania. Lots of other fun activities are planned including rafting, Softball and more. Wish I could make it, ya'll come out and represent.
Next, continuing with our Jazz Fest 2008 recap we're going to focus today on Davell Crawford and his Singers in the Gospel Tent. One of the most powerful sets I witnessed, Davell had the choir firing on all cylinders. Some call him the Crown Prince of New Orleans, others ask me "Davell who?". Davell Crawford is one of the best reasons to go to Jazz Fest and also to do some exploring and see some local musicians that you might have never heard of. Performing since a very young age, his talents have taken him around the world and he maintains an incredibly strong European fan base. If you haven't had the pleasure yet, do not miss him next chance you get.
