Photo of the Day 2/15/08

The Neville Brothers - New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival 5/1/05

Today's photo of the day honors the return of The Neville Brothers to their rightful place as the headlining act at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival 2008. For those who do not fully understand the importance of this event and the return to some normalcy that it represents, I share with you the words of Chris Rose. Chris is a columnist at the Tines-Picayune in New Orleans and his amazing book called "1 Dead in the Attic" is highly recomended. It does however come with this warning; If you have a soul prepare yourself for lots of tears. It is easily one of the most gut wrenching peices of literature that I have ever read. As the book points out repeatedly, this story must be told and never forgotten. With that I will leave you with these words from Chris describing what that Sunday evening felt like for all those years and what it might feel like again on Sunday May 4th 2008.

"As daylight fades to dusk. Aaron Neville sings "Amazing Grace" and then the First Family of Funk jumps in with a rousing version of Bob Marley's "One Love" or some other anthemic sing-along and fifty thousand people in the crowd fall all over themselves with tears, laughter, group hugs and the general righteousness that attends the realization that you are, for one brief moment, at the center of the universe."

I hope you're all there for that hug........
