Fats Domino - Tipitina's, New Orleans 5/19/07
I've been reading a great book called "Blue Monday, Fats Domino and the last dawn of Rock 'n' Roll". Highly recommended if you're looking for that last minute gift.
One of the most interesting things that I learned was how much of an impact Fats and his music had on integration. I think the quote below from an Editorial in Cashbox on Feb 5th 1955 says a lot. The Editorial was titled "Breaking Down the Barriers".
"The whole movement has broken down barriers, which in the ordinary course of events might have taken untold amounts of time to do. How better to understand what is known to you than by appreciation of the emotional experience of other people? And how better are the emotions portrayed than by music?"
